Teen and Young Adult Counseling

AGES 13 and older

The adolescent and young adult years can be tough: for them and for you.

Maybe you are noticing your teen or young adult …

  • Spends more time with their electronic devices than they do with the family, time in school, or any other thing.

  • Seems like they never listen and is difficult to ask them to do anything, or do their responsibilities or chores.

  • Loses their temper quickly or is disrespectful or behaves in out-of-control ways more often as they get older.

  • Doesn’t talk about their 'feelings” or problems, stonewalls, shuts down in a conversation, or does the opposite and he/she is overly sensitive.

  • is not motivated to do anything and has difficulties finding their purpose or choosing a career.

  • Has difficulties dealing with academic demands, has poor grades, or has problems at school.

  • Has difficulties saying NO to others, is a people pleaser, and struggles with social and peer pressure.

  • Blames other people or situations for their failings-“the teacher's fault or “it wasn’t me, they started”.

  • Seems themselves unattractive, talk about themselves in a very negative way, feels worthless, or feels guilty and blames themselves for things. ‘It’s all my fault’ or ‘I’m a failure’.

  • Has adopted negative behaviors such as missing school, smoking, or drinking

  • Seems anxious, restless, worried, is a perfectionist, or feel sad, or tearful, and they might say they feel ‘empty’ or ‘numb’.

  • Is dealing with a stressful situation in life, such as bullying, divorce, a new sibling, a move to a new city or school, challenges transitioning to college or work, or dealing with loss and grief.

If any of these things are true for your teen or young adult, or just want him/her to have an outlet for expressing themselves and have unbiased advice from a professional. You’re in the right place. Keep reading to see if I might be the best fit for your teen or young adult’s needs.

MY APPROACH WORKING WITH TEENS AND YOUNG ADULTS

I provide a safe space for your teen or young adult to explore important issues that may feel difficult to share with others. I help them increase insight and create change.

My approach in therapy is individualized for every teen or young adult I work with. Whether they are facing emotional, social, or behavioral challenges, I am here to help them thrive.

In therapy with your teen or young adult, common themes to discuss may include:

  • Emotional management/emotional regulation

  • Conflict resolution

  • Critical thinking

  • Decision making

  • Problem solving/negotiation

  • Teamwork

  • Social skills building

  • Boundaries and limits

  • Healthy communication

  • Choices and consequences

  • Impulse control

  • self-discipline and self-motivation

  • Self-esteem and confidence

As a therapist, I can help your teen and young adult learn how to gain control over their emotions, resist impulsive behavior, find their internal motivation, build healthy relationships, and improve their communication. I also help them to elevate their self-esteem so they can grow up believing in themselves and have a positive outlook on life.

Nothing is impossible. The word itself says: I’m possible.

I also enjoy working with autism spectrum diagnoses, ADD/ADHD, anxiety, depression, self-injurious behaviors, learning difficulties, sexual orientation, sibling rivalry, parent-child connection, blended families or with step-parenting, effects of divorce, grief and loss, bullying, and trauma.
